South East Asia is becoming the most important area for the trade of dairy products. In the period January-November 2017, it imported semi-processed products and processed products amounting to 3.717.000 tons, 10% more than the same period of the previous year.
This growth in demand in South East Asia corresponds to an increase of milk supply in the main producing countries, which export to this area.
In fact, In the last month (November 2017), the milk production trend was positive for: Australia (+4.3%), New Zealand (+4.2%), USA (+1%) and EU-28 (+4.2%, October data).

China remains the main importing country, with an increase of 13.4% in volume and 39.7% in value, in the period January-November 2017.
In November, increases in volume were recorded for:
- Skimmed Milk Powder – SMP (+52.8%)
- Infant milk formula (+46.6%)
- Liquid milk (+12.2%)
- Cream (+77.4%)
while reductions were recorder for:
- Butter (-11.7%)
- Cheese (-22.3%)
In November 2017, unit prices for China imports, compared to November 2016 data, increased for:
- Butter (+71.0%)
- Liquid milk (+20.3%)
- Cream (+31.3%)
- Whole Milk Powder – WMP (+31.1%)
- Whey Powder (+20.7%)
- Cheese (+13.4%)
- Skimmed Milk Powder – SMP (+5.6%)
