Corn and Soybean n°1/2016: Production revised downwards for the U.S. and South Africa

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, in the WASDE Report of January 2016, shows for the season 2015-16 the estimates of a decreasing global production for Corn (967.93 Mio t) and Soybean (319.01 Mio t) compared to December estimates.

The forecasts reflect lower expected Corn yields in the U.S. and South Africa. In the Unites States is expected a Corn production of 345.49 Mio t and a Soybean production of 106.95 Mio t, with on lower yields. Production for South Africa is lowered due to continued heat and dryness during December.

U.S. Corn exports are still lower based on the slow pace of sales and shipments to date and continued strong competition from South American suppliers.

With lower Soybean supplies, U.S. Soybean exports are reduced. Canada exports more than offset lower U.S. soybean exports.

The global ending stocks of Corn and Soybean (respectively 208.94 Mio t and 79.28 Mio t) are lower compared to December forecasts, but they remain at record levels.
